B.F.F'S PART 3 [MY BEST FRIEND LOVES JESUS MORE THAN YOUR BEST FRIEND]
Would you jump off a bridge if your friends did?
Whoever came up with that question deserves a top spot in the parenting hall of fame because every mom in history has said that to their kids at some point; except for maybe Mary cause you know, her son walked on water which means he could probably fly if he wanted to...
Meet Chris Skinner. Pastor, Ninja wannabe, BFF and someone I would follow if he jumped off a bridge. Seriously, Chris is one of maybe 3 people I would follow anywhere without a second thought.
For one, he’s incredibly gifted. Apparently the angel that was in charge of distributing gifts got distracted and left Chris too many gifts because he is a very good speaker who can also lead worship like its nobody’s business; which is like having your cake and eating it too. Not fair. Oh yea, he’s also a great writer. And he’s funny. And he looks like rob bell. And he could eat a house and not gain a pound. And he can play the guitar real well. And the Harmonica. And he REALLY, REALLY loves Jesus. Probably more than your best friend. Definitely more than me, which is why I’d follow him off a bridge.
Its rare for me to talk to Chris without being challenged to love God more. He once wrote that if God wasn’t in heaven he wouldn’t want to be there. I believe him, which is crazy. I mean, think about it, can you honestly say that if Jesus wasn’t in heaven and everything else stayed the same [golden streets, no death, no tears, no pain] you wouldn’t want to be there? Sometimes I’m not sure I can say that, which is why I need a friend who can. We all need a friend whose life challenges us.
If the last blog challenged you to pursue friendships, this one challenges you to pursue friends who are going where you want to go. Be intentional about being around people who you would follow off a bridge. If I’m serious about wanting to love God more then intentionally rubbing shoulders with Chris is one of the smartest things I can do.
Think back to your biggest regret in life. Chances are it was influenced [directly or indirectly] by the relationships you surrounded yourself with. Even when we live in isolation, its usually a response to past relationships. People have MORE influence on us than we think, so we might as well pursue the kind of people we wanna be, right?
You might never be a Moses or a David or Jesus or a Paul [lightening rod world changers], but you could choose to surround yourself with people like them. Just ask Joshua [dude would not leave Moses’ side] or Jonathan [prince who befriended David the shepherd boy] or Peter [his resume speaks for itself] or Silas [partner in crime with Paul].
Think about that. These guys glorified God, changed history and unleashed unimaginable potential in themselves through friendships. How incredible is the power of relationships?!
If you want to be _______ [passionate, selfless] or be a great ________ [mom, husband, leader] then pursue relationships with people who are ______ [passionate, selfless] or great _______ [moms, husbands, leaders] e.t.c
I want to REALLY love Jesus so I choose to pursue a relationship with Chris because he really loves Jesus.
What is your _______ ? What kind of people do you need to pursue in light of who or what you want to be?
P:S: check out Chris’s blog. You’ll be greatly challenged. I guarantee it. http://lovewarglory.wordpress.com/
