The gospel according to finding Nemo: Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine, Mine...
I think one of the biggest differences between us and the Acts 2 church is that they believed that nothing was there’s and consequently met every need in their community.
We on the other hand are like the seagulls from finding Nemo...
We are convinced that everything we own is ours and so we tighten our hands on our stuff. We not only say no to each other but we say no to God because after all its OUR CAR, OUR HOUSE, OUR JOB, OUR MONEY, OUR TIME e.t.c
The reality though is, nothing u have is really yours. Nothing you’ve ‘worked’ for is really yours. Its an investment. A loan. A blessing. I know that sounds crazy so let me put it in perspective for you.
The other day my daughter said I couldn’t have any of her juice. When I asked why, she said ‘because its mine’. My response?
‘Bebe, when you can drive your own car to the store to buy your own juice with your own money and store it in your own refrigerator, in your own kitchen, in your own house... then you can tell me i can’t have any cause its yours’
In other words, nothing is yours.
I wasn’t trying to be controlling. She’s my daughter. She has access to everything in my house. I just wanted her to understand that nothing was hers because when nothing is yours, its easy to give and share everything. I think that's how Jesus wants us to view the kingdom. Everything has been given to us, but nothing is ours. Everything we earn or work for is only possible because He gives us breath.
We all want to be like the Acts 2 church. Well, here’s one simple step. Lets start by living like nothing is ours. Lets loosen our grip on our stuff and see what God does.
I know its easier said than done but I want to try. I struggle with sharing my expensive toys [macbook, Ipad e.t.c] because well, they are expensive. Also struggle with sharing my time because I love to do what I wanna do when I wanna do it. What about you? Be honest.
What do you own that's hardest for you to share?
Also, what do you think would happen today if everyone in your church believed nothing they owned was theirs?
