I don't know.
I don’t know how I am supposed to have a kid at age 99 - Abraham (father who had many sons and many sons he had. I am one of them and so are you. right arm, left arm).
I don’t know what to do with my dreams while sit in prison -Joseph (techno-colored dream coat dude).
I don’t know how to lead these people because I am slow of speech and tongue -Moses (big bushy beard. Prince of Egypt. Let my people go).
I don’t know how I, a sherpherd will ever become King -David (pizza delivery guy who killed the big bad giant).
I don’t know what if I will die or live when I go before the King -Esther (slave girl turned queen).
I don’t know if God will rescue us when we are thrown in the fire -Daniel (ceo and founder of the daniel diet).
I don’t know why Jesus isn’t rescuing me from the hands of Herod -John the Baptist (eater of locusts and honey. Not a great dresser).
I don’t know why he called me to follow him or how I'm supposed to change the world -Any of the disciples (the one with the big mouth? the one that's a mama's boy? the one that's a coward? etc).
Do you have plenty of I don’t knows in your life? Congratulations. You’re in great company.
Following Jesus is a journey of faith meaning if you wanna play a part in Gods great story then you’ve got to be prepared to walk a road filled with plenty of 'I don’t knows'.
In reality every human being has to live with unknowns. The difference as a follower of Jesus is in the midst of our I don’t knows, we KNOW that Jesus is always faithful.
Thats not merely a theological statement. Or a religious sentiment. It’s not positive reenforcement.
It’s a real, never changing, constant, TRUTH.
JESUS IS FAITHFUL.
Regardless of what you’re going through or how many 'I don't knows' are in your life...
Jesus is faithful.
I know how hard it is to believe that truth when we're drowning and gasping for air in an ocean of uncertainty. I've felt that anxiety plenty of times.
Its overwhelming but its not uncommon. It's the story of the bible. Which is why everytime I face a mountain of 'I don't knows', I remember I'm not that special. I remember that this isn't a new mountain.
No way. Father Abraham faced this mountain. So did David and Moses and every Old Testament and New Testament great. They all faced it and they all lived to testify to Gods faithfulness.
As long as I remember that, I know I'm in good hands. As long as we remember Jesus's past faithfulness-in the bible, through history and in our lives-we'll be okay in spite of the unknowns.
It's what Paul called 'the peace of God that transcends all understanding'.
I know we all want to have a peace that makes no sense in light of our current circumstances but do you know what command Paul uses as a context for this peace that he speaks of?
Do not be anxious about anything.
Life will always try to strangle us and we will also have more uncertainties than we can handle, but we don't have to live in anxiety because...
Jesus is faithful.
Do you know that?
Let’s play fill in the blanks again. What are some uncertainties you’re currently juggling?
I don’t know ____________.
