Jesus is the opposite of Taco Bell.

Does Taco bell scare you too?

Few weeks ago, I went crazy and ordered like 10 things at taco bell and my total came out to about $2. I thought surely she got my order wrong.

'Nope' she said, 'this is T-bell and that's how we roll.

She didn't really say that. And 10 things might have been a slight exaggeration, but you get the point. Taco Bell is the closest to almost free food that you'll ever get and that makes me REALLY nervous.

But as I drove away trying not to think of the soon to come digestive consequences of my meal, I thought about how most of us share the gospel like we are customers of taco bell.

Look at everything I've got for practically nothing.
Can you believe it? All this and all I had to do was simply pray the prayer.

Maybe it's just me but being able to easily 'metaphorically' compare Taco bell to the gospel makes me uncomfortable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we don't freely receive all we have by faith. Grace IS free and thats big.

But what makes the gospel astonishing isn't simply that grace is free.

[Side note: There are plenty of free things I wouldn't want. Like lint or Cigarette butts. Also your old Creed CD or your political opinions].

What makes the gospel marvelous is the value of what who we got for free.

T.bell offers you 88% beef (plus 12% other stuff you don't wanna know) for almost free.
The gospel on the other hand offers us the greatest treasure ever for free.

Jesus said:
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field."

My favorite part is wondering what his family and friends thought when the guy in the story started selling his stuff.

I wonder what they thought when he put his dream car on craigslist or when he had the worlds greatest garage sale (everything in the house goes including the house!).

I wonder if they tricked him to come watch football on Sunday only to corner him for an intervention.

See this guy wasn't living like he just found $10 or $100 or even $10,000. He lived like he found something way more valuable than everything he's worked for his whole life... something worth trading his whole life for.

He lived like we ought to.
Because Jesus is opposite of taco bell.

So yes lets tell people that grace is free, but lets not do it Taco Bell style.

Lets champion Jesus like the guy in the story.
Let's leave everything to embrace the free cause it's more valuable than all we've got.

Let's have passion that makes 'the-price-is-right-guy-who-just-won-a-car's passion look tame because we have Jesus. Let's treasure Jesus.

Let's live the kind of life that would make everyone wonder what we've got.

Because Jesus is the opposite of taco bell.

Today's goal is simple: Champion Jesus.

What is your favorite thing about grace and the gospel? In other words, what would you say if someone asked you 'what's so great about this Jesus and his gospel'?
