MAWBP (My attempt at writing a blog post)

Jul 22 2011

[This is a guest post from my good friend David Melton. He’s a 5th year Pharmacy major at UT. I’m letting him guest post on my blog so when he’s making more money in a day than most pastors make in a year, he’ll support me. J/K. Not really.]

I don't know if i am getting old or if I have always been completely oblivious to shorthand acronyms. (i wonder if there is a shorthand for the word shorthand?)

But lets be honest... who can keep up with these things? I swear people make new ones up everyday.

Here is a list of ones i found that are completely ridiculous...

1) AAK (Asleep at Keyboard) -
If you are asleep, why are you texting?

2) CICYHW (Can I copy your home work) -
Apparently they are cracking down on cheating and it's necessary to become super sneaky.

3) IASAP4U (I always say a prayer for you) -
This is a common shorthand for church people who can't even take the time to call or drive to someone's house to pray for them... I wish Jesus would have used this one. JK (just kidding).

4) PBJ (Peanut Butter & Jelly OR Pretty Boy Jock) -
I never knew that this shorthand had TWO very different meanings... this is probably the last time i use the phrase "I am so hungry for a PBJ" as this would not make me very popular with people who use the latter shorthand.

Finally... a very simple one that i use lately is NBD (No Big Deal).

It's not funny or out of the ordinary and to be honest, most people can probably figure it out.
It's just something that i say now mostly because you could use NBD is almost any situation.

'My friend forgot to call me today.. NBD';
'I missed Dr Phil, my favorite tv show... NBD';
'I spilled my drink on the carpet... NBD'.

I know those are random, but the truth is I believe that Jesus lived by the same principle. Obviously not in the same context [not even close].

But in the grand scheme of things, I think Jesus woke up every morning and said to Himself.. no matter what, It's NBD [no big deal].

Think about it!

Jesus woke up every day and laid down His life to God the Father and said:

"No matter what happens today Father, it is of minimal importance compared to Your will for my time on earth".

I know we all focus on the day that Jesus died on a cross and gave up his life forever and that's great. But the truth is, Jesus was able to die on a cross because he had laid down his life everyday prior.

Jesus practiced the notion of NO BIG DEAL.. every day... at every moment... in every action... and through every word. It was a routine and a lifestyle.

I'd love to chat with everyone reading this about what it would look like to apply this principle in our lives. Here's a question to get the dialogue started...

If Jesus lived a day as you, what is something BIG in your life right now [to you] that he would consider a NBD in light of Gods greatness?

Also, on a lighter note, what is the most ridiculous acronym you’ve ever heard of?
[P:S you can make this up. We won’t google it to double check. In fact, we encourage you to let your imaginations run wild on this one]
