The one word blog.

Jul 12 2011

One of my favorite spiritual exercises in ministry is asking people to think of one word that honestly describes the current season of their relationship with God.

Me first.

My relationship with God in one honest word:

"Frustrating"

I choose that word because I'm not where I need to be nor am i doing how I want to be doing.

What that means is I often feel very inadequate [not just in ministry but with my personal relationship with God] which usually makes me feel like a phony cause I'm the 'pastor' guy and I shouldn't be struggling with the most basic practices of Christianity [like having a QT].

But then in the midst of all that I also consistently personally experience the power and presence of Jesus in ways I find hard to explain to others.

So on one side of the coin, I can tell you he's ever present and thriving in my life. But on the other side, I feel so inconsistent and far away during this season. See how frustrating that could be?

Your turn.

I'll let you decide if you want to say why you chose your word.

Either way, I encourage everyone reading to partake in this exercise.

Really take some time to think about what one word would best describe the season you're in with God then share it. Good. Bad. Ugly. Doesn't matter. Just do it.

I promise you'll be surprised at how beneficial it is to your spirit.

K, lets go.

What one word honestly and currently describes your relationship with God?

P:S- Non-commenting regular readers or "I've-always-wanted-to-comment-but-feel-weird-saying-stuff" readers, this is your chance to take a baby step. Just one word :)
