The one word blog two.
One of my favorite old posts was when I asked people to think of one word that honestly describes the current season of their relationship with God.
I honestly did not anticipate the response and honesty I got from everyone.
It's been a while now and my word has changed so I thought I'd bring it back.
Me first.
My relationship with God [currently] in one honest word:
"Martha"
Here's the gist for those of you who aren't familiar with the 'Martha' narrative in Luke 10:38-42:
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.
40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Long story short, I'm basically Martha in that story.
Work. Work. Work.
Good work. God's work. Necessary work.
Between trying to be a better husband and dad, my new job, this blog and all the other millions of things I get myself into, I'm always up to something.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy working. I do.
But i'd also be lying if I didn't say I have a feeling Jesus longs for me to choose what is better. I'd be lying if I said working doesn't distract me from simply sitting at the feet of Jesus.
Your turn.
I'll let you decide if you want to say why you chose your word.
Either way, I encourage everyone reading to partake in this exercise.
Really take some time to think about what one word would best describe the season you're in with God then share it. Good. Bad. Ugly. Doesn't matter. Just do it.
I promise you'll be surprised at how beneficial it is to your spirit.
K, lets go.
What one word honestly and currently describes your relationship with God?
P:S- Non-commenting regular readers or "I've-always-wanted-to-comment-but-feel-weird-saying-stuff" readers, this is your chance to take a baby step. Just one word :)
