Orange bags, dog business and broccoli.

Sep 2 2011

Hey you. Yes you!

You freak me out walking around with that orange bag.

You know what orange bag i’m referring to. The one you use to carry your dogs business.
[business is code for a word I’m not allowed to say on this blog cause its immature]

Yea that orange bad. Oh no you didn’t.

You seriously gonna do that?

I mean, I have 2 huge dogs and I’d never orange bag them on a walk.
Not because they have a lot of business [if you know what I mean] but because um, that’s just not gonna happen.

Too much pride.

But you, you my orange bag carrying friend are much humbler than I am.

You will stoop down, in public, on your fours, to pick up after your pet.
The one that pees on trees and chases his own tail. Really?

And if that’s not enough, you waltz around confidently like nothing’s the matter.
This is normal.

You and your filled orange bag strolling down the block is normal?

You are crazy.
But you also give me hope.

I mean, if people can stoop down in public to do that for a dog, then surely there’s hope we can serve fellow human beings.
Surely we can go the extra mile in service of people.

People with stories. Hearts. Desires. Passions. Worth. Human beings.

Imagine what would happen if we showed served people with half as much humility as we do our dogs?

I think we could all use a reality check about ‘our serve’.

Few weeks ago, I preached a sermon called ‘the broccoli of the fruits of the Spirit’.

I just uploaded it on my sermon page. I wanna challenge you to listen to it. Its an extension of this post and I’m convinced we’d see a revolution if we bought into this challenge.

Best part is, it takes less humility than walking around with an orange bag.

Please take a listen and let me know what you think.

But for now, I want to know...

What are you doing this weekend?

Also, what is one practical way you can serve someone in the next 3 days?
