Should Christians use online dating?

Aug 7 2011

20% of relationships now begin online. That’s 1 in 5.

The world has come a long way from ‘check a box if you like me’ hasn’t it?

With a single click, you can be exposed to hundreds and thousands of singles in your area. I’m not talking about weird, secret, creeper dating sites either [of course there’s tons of those].

I’m referring to legit, professional, culturally accepted sites. The other day I saw a commercial for a 'Christian online dating service';

'Meet singles who love Jesus in your area with just one click.'

To be honest...

The whole (Christian) internet dating thing initially rubs me the wrong way cause it just reeks of desperation. Its a lot easier to meet thousands with a click that it is to wait and trust God.

But on the flip side, I know some Jesus-loving, legit, married couples who met online. Plus I wonder how much of my hesitation with online dating is cultural rather than biblical.

Is online dating for Christians fair or foul? Is there a line? Not sure. What do you guys think?

Should Christians use online dating? Would you? Why or why not?
If you’re married, how would you respond if you found out your kid is using online dating?
