You Are A Nerd (And Why That's Important).
Everyone has their quirks.
My friend Lou is super passionate about sound. My friend Matt has an insatiable curiosity for all things outdoors. My friend Jon is a mechanical engineer and gets fired up about the inner workings of everything.
Downright nerds.
Oftentimes I don't know what they're talking about. But I love it. Actually, when I want to have a great conversation, I seek out the nerds. They know a lot about something…and I become wiser when I talk to them. Matter of fact, the nerdier the better.
These are the people that teach me.
[From Sammy: This is a guest post from my buddy David Santistevan. I read a bunch of blogs but there are only two that are permanently on my browser bar. David's is one of them. I'm not even a worship leader and I religiously stalk his blog. Find out why here. You can also follow him on twitter. I know you guys are sometimes shy with guest posts but David loves dialogue so please dive in and let's show him how we roll. Please.]
I would rather hang out with a nerd than someone who is just trying to just fit in. Someone who just wants to be normal.
I'm incredibly nerdy. How I listen to music, my rants on social media and blogging, and my passion for underwater basket weaving are a few of my many obsessions (two truths and a lie).
Some people use their passions as a means of evil. Others simply do nothing. You, on the other hand, are channeling your nerdiness to disrupt the status quo.
We need you to be you - your unique voice, your unique passions, your unique perspective all dead set on making a difference.
So, yes. I'm asking you to be a nerd. Embrace the inner nerd. How? Glad you asked:
1. What Do You Love?
What fires you up like nothing else? What is your passion? It's unmistakable that Sammy has a passion for Jesus and young adults. Reading this blog fires me up for the truth. That's the power of a nerd - they're inspiring.
What do you love? Identify it…now.
2. Do Something With It
It's not enough to just have passions that you enjoy for yourself. I'm a Christian. God calls me to make disciples. So I channel my passion for music and worship in a way that makes disciples.
I don't want to just enjoy music by myself, in the confines of my room. I use it to make a difference.
3. Never Stop Learning
Life ends when you stop learning - when you stop being curious. Wake up every day and see every moment as an opportunity to learn. Yep, even the struggle you'd rather forget. The success that has you thinking you've got it all together. The confusion that creeps into your mind. Everything you face.
Never. Stop. Learning
Most people spend too much time trying not to be nerdy - trying to be like everyone else. Stop it. Nerds of the world, unite!
What makes you a nerd and how are you using that to make a difference?
